Safety Protection via Physical Distance

In cases where a PV system exhibits open-circuit voltage exceeding 120 Vor is grid connected, additional precautions against touch voltage need to be taken if the solar generator does not have basic insulation. One way to achieve this is by installing the relevant elements at a distance from each other by, for example, mounting the solar generator at a difficult-to-access site such as behind a high fence or on a normally non – walkable roof (e. g. a pitched roof, but not a roof terrace), or mounting the solar generator at an inaccessible height. It is also advisable to install other critical components such as inverters, junction boxes, battery banks and the like in an enclosed space.
