Mounting a Solar Generators on an Existing Structure

In some cases, a solar generator can be mounted at little additional cost on existing structures such as highway or railway sound barriers. Figure 4.58 displays one of the first such installations near Chur, Switzerland. Recently, hybrid solutions have also been realized involving PV and acoustic attenuation elements, although such approaches inevitably necessitate certain compromises. Other structures such as bridges, retaining walls, dams, highway overpasses, parking lot roofs and so on can also potentially be used for PV installations.
