Hydrogen infrastructure in Porto

The hydrogen infrastructure in Porto (Fig. 5) was supplied by BP. The hydrogen is produced in the Linde factory located in Alenquer through an electrolysis process using grid electricity. It is then transported by road in tankers (in gaseous form at 200 bar) to the filling station. The trailers are then connected to the station, serving as stationary storage. As the storage pressure in the buses has a maximum of 350 bar, in order to transfer the hydrogen to the buses an additional compression stage is required, raising the filling pressure to 400 bar (the system must also cope with the reduction in the pressure of the tanker as the hydrogen is transferred).

The station has parking space and connecting equipment for two trailers.
