Sustainability Indicators of Wind Based Electricity Generation

A sub-stoichiometric quantity of oxygen, or air, is used in the partial oxidation fuel reaction. This small amount of oxidant produces some heat and water that reacts with the non-oxidized fuel to generate hydrogen and carbon dioxide, considering theoretical approach showed in Eq. (3).

However, practical systems, based on partial oxidation technology, generate syn­gas with less hydrogen than other methods such as autothermal or steam-reforming. A large amount of carbon monoxide is yielded. The process temperature is also higher, around 1000°C.

Materials needed for construction of a 600 kW wind turbine are given in Table 3.

The most important resource indicator is fuel indicator. As pointed out above, fuel consumption is considered for this option due to production of materials for wind turbines construction. Calculated value of this indicator is given in Table 5.
